Making way for a cleaner energy mix, the TVA Decommissioning Group and its partners safely imploded stacks that previously served three coal-fired generating units at Paradise Fossil Plant near Drakesboro, Kentucky, on Thursday, August 15. The stacks have been retired since 2020.

The demolition of the retired coal plant marks the next step as TVA continues to transition the Paradise site to the energy system of the future, which will continue to provide increasingly carbon-free, affordable, reliable power.

Earlier this year, TVA celebrated the completion of three new combustion turbines at the Paradise site.
