On Thursday, September 26, members of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) family came together in an inspiring act of service, joining Sleep in Heavenly Peace staff to construct 40 brand-new beds for children in need. These beds will be provided to children in Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, and Lawrence counties. In Florence, AL., there 460 children without beds!
The project began with a generous $21,000 donation provided by two grants from BVI to support the mission of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a group dedicated to ensuring that no child has to sleep on the floor.
At 8:00 a.m., both TVA employees and retirees gathered, ready to put their hands to work. The Sleep in Heavenly Peace staff had set up organized workstations, making the large-scale project feel like a family assembly line. Like all TVA project a safety briefing was conducted to ensure everyone was aware of safe work practices. In just two hours, 50 beds were measured, cut, sanded, and assembled.
The Sleep in Heavenly Peace team commended the TVA group for its efficiency and teamwork, saying the construction effort was among the most well-organized they had seen.
The morning was filled not only with the sounds of hammers and saws but also with laughter, renewed friendships, and new connections between current employees and retirees. Volunteers were greeted with warm coffee and biscuits, adding to the spirit of fellowship.
This effort was more than just building furniture—it was about building community, compassion, and hope. Thanks to the partnership of TVA and Sleep in Heavenly Peace, 50 children in our area will soon have a safe and comfortable place to sleep.
