Mike Skaggs has been named interim CEO by the TVA Board of Directors, Chair Mitch Graves announced last week.

Skaggs brings more than 40 years of experience in the utility industry to the role, including over 25 years at TVA. Skaggs served as TVA’s Chief Operating Officer from 2018-2021, overseeing TVA’s gas, coal and hydro generating assets and the River Forecast Center. He also led the effort to enhance and modernize TVA’s transmission grid – the nation’s second largest transmission system.

“Mike has a strong understanding of TVA’s important role in powering our seven-state region,” Graves said in his announcement.

Graves also pointed to Skaggs leadership and knowledge of nuclear generation, which aligns directly with TVA’s strategic focus on expanding and modernizing its nuclear fleet to support the region’s growing energy needs.

“Over the course of his TVA career, he played key roles in some of the agency’s most significant nuclear milestones, including the completion and startup of Watts Bar Nuclear Plant Unit 2, restoration of a Browns Ferry unit and successful management of two major steam generator replacement projects,” Graves said.

Skaggs joined TVA in 1994 as a project manager at Watts Bar Nuclear Plant and later filled several executive leadership positions in operations and construction in TVA’s corporate offices and at the Browns Ferry, Sequoyah and Watts Bar nuclear stations.

“The Board is excited to be working alongside Mike, the leadership team and each of you as we continue fulfilling our mission to provide reliable, affordable, American energy to more than 10 million people across the Southeast,” Graves said in his message to TVA’s workforce.
