THE SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR INDEPENDENTLY PERFORMS ROUTINE SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION TASKS IN SUPPORT OF THE TVA UNIX AND/OR WINDOWS NT BASED GENERAL USE AND ENTERPRISE DISTRIBUTED SERVERS AND WORKS WITHIN ESTABLISHED GUIDELINES, POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR ADMINISTERING THESE SERVERS.

ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: ADDING AND REMOVING USER IDS, EXECUTING VARIOUS SYSTEM COMMANDS TO DETERMINE SYSTEM STATUS, MONITORING SYSTEM PERFORMANCE, ADJUSTING SYSTEM PARAMETERS EFFECTING SYSTEM PERFORMANCE AS WARRANTED, OPERATE AND MAINTAIN PERIPHERAL DEVICES, SHARING AND UNSHARING DISKS AND/OR FILE SYSTEMS, SHUTTING DOWN AND BOOTING UP THE SYSTEM, PLANNING AND EXECUTING HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE SYSTEM INSTALLATIONS, SYSTEM UPGRADES, INSTALLING THIRD-PARTY SOFTWARE, SYSTEM NETWORKING (NIS, NFS, ETC.), DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM/NETWORK PROBLEMS, AND OTHER ROUTINE TASKS AS ASSIGNED BY A SENIOR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR OR TEAM LEAD.

WORKS WITH OTHERS TO DESIGN, DOCUMENT AND IMPLEMENT STANDARDS ASSOCIATED WITH SERVERS, SERVER INFRASTRUCTURE AND DOMAIN MODELS, AS REQUIRED.

KEEPS ABREAST OF PROGRESS ON ASSIGNED PROJECTS. PROVIDES CONSULTATION TO OTHER IS ORGANIZATIONS, CUSTOMERS, AND IT PROFESSIONALS TO DETERMINE THE APPROPRIATE TECHNOLOGY SOLUTION TO BUSINESS PROBLEM.

INVESTIGATES AND ENSURE RESOLUTION OF PRODUCTION PROBLEMS.

PROVIDES NOTIFICATION AND PROBLEM DETERMINATION AND RESOLUTION FOR CUSTOMERS.

DEVELOPS TEST PLANS FOR NEW HARDWARE, SOFTWARE AND/OR SYSTEM UPGRADES AND DEVELOPS IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY INCLUDING COST, RISK AND IMPACT TO EXISTING SYSTEMS.

IDENTIFIES AND AUTOMATES SYSTEMS SCRIPTS AS NECESSARY. ENSURES THAT ALL DISASTER RECOVERY AND SECURITY PLANS, PROCEDURES AND PROCESSES ARE IN PLACE AS REQUIRED.

Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, Registration Requirements/Other Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline or progressive experience at this level in an installation with more than 50 servers of the type used in TVA’s general usage distributed environment.
Must possess the skills and proficiencies listed above and meet the education and experience requirements below and must qualify for and maintain an ADP II security clearance.
Must be able and willing to assume on-call rotational assignments which may include 24 hour on 7-day per week availability. Travel as required to carry out project work or perform temporary duty at other than home-based site, which supports both internal and external business on the schedule, and shift requirements of those businesses.

This is a Hybrid position will require min of 1 day onsite per week, with possibility of additional onsite days per management discretion. Must be located in the Greater Chattanooga area.
