TVA’s Facilities Transformation is evaluating the future of our facilities and workspaces to improve overall use of space across the enterprise. Focusing first on our large corporate offices creates the earliest opportunities for both TVA and our communities—and the Chattanooga Office Complex (COC) is a priority.
With the largest concentration of TVA’s workforce, the 1M+ square foot complex is significantly underutilized. The site is currently under consideration by the General Services Administration for a new Federal courthouse. Other uses could include a hotel, affordable housing, ground floor retail, convention center expansion or office space.
“As we continue to review all options for the COC, including renovation, demolition and/or sale, we’re preparing for TVA’s future transition to new more cost-effective and energy efficient space in Chattanooga,” said Tricia Roelofs, Senior Director, Facilities Transformation.
Phase 1 of that transition involves vacating the COC’s Missionary Ridge/Blue Ridge buildings and consolidating all occupants to the other side of the complex, into new business unit neighborhoods, shared neighborhoods and specialty spaces. Currently, 17 neighborhoods have been established with construction of specialty spaces, such as the relocated Communications Studio and the new SP1 conference room space, scheduled to begin in October.
In addition to the business unit neighborhoods, shared areas are already available throughout Lookout Place and Signal Place. These neighborhoods offer different space designs to meet varying employee needs – such as team collaboration areas, casual collaboration areas and different areas to connect with others.
“Testing out shared workspaces through temporary consolidations allows users to adapt to our transition to shared space so that we can incorporate their feedback into our future office designs,” said Tricia. “While this is obviously not permanent space for our teams, it is offering employees the chance to familiarize themselves with the practices and benefits of shared collaboration space and to weigh in on what improvements they’d like to see in our future locations.”
“I’m really enjoying the space and the flexibility it provides” said Tiffany Smith, Senior Manager, Partnership Engagement, who has moved to SP4 with Customer and Community Relations. “I can work independently at a workstation, easily transition to an office for longer or confidential
