To our customers, reliability means keeping the lights on—it’s what they expect and deserve. For us, it’s upholding that reliability with diligent behind-the-scenes work. TVA had one of its best years in FY 2024, and behind every flip of a light switch was a TVA employee who contributed to that success.

From Winter Storm Heather to Helene, Working Safely to Clean Energy, TVA has continued to be a mindful environmental steward while also ensuring that demand response matches stride with the sustained economic growth in the region.

“Working safely and delivering operational excellence drives everything we do,” said CEO Jeff Lyash. “2024 marked a year of tremendous growth—in both population and electric load. As more families and businesses move into the region, it’s more important than ever to maintain this performance and meet demand. Affordability is drawing people here. Our reliability will help them flourish.

At TVA, we are leading the way in innovation. And together we are working toward a clean energy future for all those who call this Valley home.”

What we’ve accomplished

Safety – For the first time in a decade, TVA had no serious injuries in FY 2024. The team was able to achieve this milestone while increasing work volume by almost one million hours this fiscal year.

Demand – During January’s Winter Storm Heather, TVA was able to meet the highest demand ever (34,526 MW) with 106% performance and the lowest ever system interruption of only 2.3 minutes.

Reliability – TVA had one of the best years across three generation technologies (gas, hydro and coal) and successfully completed 163 planned outages.

Clean Energy – During FY 2024, TVA expanded its solar portfolio to 4,200 MW and celebrated the opening of the First Solar manufacturing facility in Lawrence County, Alabama.

Nuclear – TVA is optimizing and extending approximately 8,200 MW of reliable nuclear generation across three sites and seven operating units for 80+ total years of life. Additionally, during FY 2024, TVA’s Board of Directors authorized $150 million for TVA’s New Nuclear Program to advance development.

Environmental Stewardship – In FY 2024, TVA achieved zero Environmental Violation of Significance (EVOS), exceeding the goal set at the beginning of the year. Based on a Powerful Partnerships Study, of the Valley public that is aware TVA manages natural resources, nearly two-thirds believe that TVA does an excellent or very good job with those resources.

Development – TVA helped to attract $8.9 billion in projected capital investment, expected to create more than 10,350 jobs in the Valley region for continued economic growth.

River Management – After the Hurricane Helene deluge brought two months of rain in three days to the East Tennessee River watershed, TVA controlled water movement through the system to minimize downstream flooding. Eight dams were inspected, and all were found to be stable.

Still work to do

Balancing the ability to provide affordable, reliable power with caring for and protecting the environment, TVA is focused on reducing carbon emissions in an efficient and cost-effective manner. In the spirit of continuous improvement, TVA is committed to ensuring that this performance is sustainable, exploring all available technologies as we aspire to be net-zero by 2050.
