TVA’s Enterprise Transformation initiatives, launched in summer 2024, are focused on ensuring TVA can meet its current financial and operational commitments while making significant investments to meet regional growth. Optimizing our core business is critical. This requires improving financial health, enhancing asset performance, automating processes, optimizing our third-party spend through supply chain, and continually driving efficiencies into the work our employees perform every day.

All options to deliver sustained cost savings are being evaluated, which includes critically assessing our organizational structure and staffing levels. From approximately February through April 2025, TVA will go through an organizational design process that will assess every area of the business to identify opportunities for greater effectiveness and efficiency.

As we position TVA for the future, it’s important that we take your future career plans into account. Starting in January, TVA will offer an enterprise-wide voluntary reduction in force (VRIF). A VRIF provides eligible employees who are considering retirement or interested in career opportunities outside of TVA. It also creates capacity in the workforce that supports sustainable decisions in the upcoming organizational design process.

  • To be eligible to request a VRIF, an employee must have five years of full-time annual service since their most recent appointment date.
  • Severance is equal to one week of pay per year of continuous full-time annual service since the most recent appointment date (up to 30 years of service).
  • The VRIF application window will be January 6 – February 19, 2025. Decisions will be made by each SBU’s leaders. They will then communicate these decisions with each applicant by March 7.
  • Leadership has final discretion to approve or deny an employee’s VRIF request based on operational need or business continuity risk.
  • Approved applicants’ exit dates will be between April 4 and May 30.

TVA leadership is committed to being transparent throughout this process, so you can make the best decision about your future. Applying for a VRIF is an important decision and each person has unique considerations. This information is being shared now to give you time to consider this opportunity over the next few weeks and make an informed decision about what’s best for you and your family.
