On Tuesday, Aug. 19, we reached a record summer-to-date peak of 32,270 megawatts (MW) at a system average temperature of 96 F.

This summer, the Valley region has experienced significant heat and power demands, all of which were successfully met because of TVA employees’ resilience and commitment:

  • On June 25, we experienced the second highest June peak in history at 31,429 MW, marking the highest energy day for any June at 617 gigawatt hours (GWh).
  • On July 30, we experienced a peak of 31,889 MW.
  • In July, TVA recorded the second longest streak of consecutive days over 30,000 MW (11 days) and set a record for highest energy usage for the month of July at 17,767 GWh.
  • In June and July, there were 18 days of over 30,000 MW and 28 days with temperatures above normal during June and July.
  • August has continued the trend with high temperatures and loads, tying the record with a current total of 23 days above 30,000 MW across the summer months.

These data points reflect the region’s growing demand for energy and reinforce our mission of service to the people of the Valley region. This would not be possible without reliable and resilient performance from the diverse generating fleet and the dedication of our TVA employees.

Thank you to the teams throughout the enterprise who worked day and night to ensure we met demand and kept the 10 million people of the Valley region safe this week.
