For 250 years, America’s story has been powered by energy.

Energy to create strong communities.

Energy to fuel economic growth.

Energy to meet challenges.

And for 93 of those 250 years, America has looked to TVA to provide that transformative energy for the Valley region.

TVA has answered that call since its founding in 1933, weaving together a mission of service with a fierce spirit of innovation to meet the nation’s needs.

In those early days, malaria afflicted a large proportion of residents in the Valley region. TVA designed aerial spraying equipment and a comprehensive program to eradicate the scourge.

As Valley residents struggled to eke out a living on depleted soil, TVA developed hundreds of innovative fertilizer patents that improved farmers’ yields and standards of living, while laying the groundwork for modern fertilizer industry practices.

During World War II, TVA drove innovative solutions, from domestic explosives manufacturing to mapping enemy territory.

TVA quadrupled its power generation between 1941 and 1945 to become the largest electricity supplier in the nation. Aluminum – needed for aircraft like the B 24 Liberator and P 51 Mustang – was extraordinarily electricity intensive. TVA’s low-cost power made mass production possible.

And TVA stepped up on a vital new top-secret nuclear project, delivering huge amounts of stable, round-the-clock power for the Manhattan Project’s uranium enrichment program at Oak Ridge, Tennessee, which made possible the atomic bombs that eventually ended the war.

Today, that legacy of innovation and service continues as TVA works closely with its partners to spur technological progress and build the workforce of the future.

TVA is on the forefront of the nation’s nuclear industry innovation, partnering with companies developing next-generation nuclear technologies, including Kairos, GE Verona Hitachi, Oklo and Type One Energy.

And TVA is unleashing American energy with one of the largest capital expenditures in its history to expand its generation fleet and modernize the region’s electric grid.

America’s 250th birthday is a powerful reminder of the nation’s strength and unmatched ability to overcome challenges.

As Americans look to the next 250 years, TVA’s focus is unwavering.

Delivering reliable, affordable energy.

Catalyzing jobs and economic growth.

And helping secure a strong, prosperous future for the people across TVA’s seven-state region.
