Job Duties

Work will be performed on the steam generator at WBN.

  • As a staff QC specialist, develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others.
  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of ANSI N45.2.6 examination tests, products, or equipment when necessary data are insufficient or confirmation by evaluation is advisable.
  • Usually performs as a staff advisor and consultant as to a technical specialty, or a programmatic function, including development of specialized training courses.
  • Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of discipline engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
  • Makes decisions independently on discipline engineering problems and methods and represents the organization in conferences to receive important questions and to plan and coordinate work.
  • Requires the use of advanced inspection techniques and the modifications and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.
  • The knowledge and expertise required for this level of work usually result from progressive experience.
  • Performs and evaluates programmatic activities related to the examination, disposition, repair, replacement or modification of critical structures, systems and components of various types of equipment where a specialized knowledge of engineering and industry standards is required in order to resolve technical problems and provide practical corrective measures.
  • Performs and provides technical direction of routine and non-routine inspections/examinations on systems and components of nuclear and non-nuclear generating plants for the purpose of conforming to approved acceptance criteria.
  • Develops written procedures and specialized inspection techniques for emergent failure mechanisms.
  • Provides technical supervision, coordination, and review of multidiscipline engineers and technical examination personnel.
  • The incumbent will not be responsible for the supervisory administrative duties of performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, selections, leave approval, promotions and pay changes.

Education and Experience

  • Shall be a high school graduate or equivalent, plus related continuing education.
  • Must be certified or certifiable as Level III in a primary engineering discipline as dictated by area of responsibility with at least two additional level II certifications in secondary areas.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • This position requires that the individual be capable of reviewing and approving inspection, examination, and testing procedures and evaluating the adequacy of such procedures to accomplish the inspection, examination, and test objectives (reference regulatory guide 1.58).
  • Must successfully complete training and acquired certification in additional inspection/examination disciplines or areas, as required by the manager and business operations of the organization.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and S-3 and S-4 medical qualifications when applicable.
  • Must be able and willing to assume “on-call” rotational assignments which may include 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week availability.
  • Must be willing and medically able to work rotating shifts and maximum overtime permitted by TVAN procedures during peak periods.
  • Must be able and willing to travel to plant locations as required when performing assigned tasks and, as necessary, to be temporarily assigned to a field location.
