Temporary Contract Work at TVA

Start Date: As soon as possible

Duration:  12 to 24 months

Location: Knoxville Office Complex

TVA Organization: Facilities Management

Pay: $15 to $19 per hour, depending on experience 

Work Schedule:  8:00 to 4:45, Monday through Friday

Job Duties

  • Routine support activities include, but are not limited to, day-to-day coordination, organizing, reviewing, distributing a variety of documents (mail and packages), and standard reporting according to procedures
  • Sort incoming mail/items using bins for the appropriate buildings and mail stops
  • Deliver and pick up interoffice, usps, ups, federal express mail and other items upon request
  • Obtain signatures and maintain delivery records for special mail
  • Operates mail center vehicles to deliver and pickup mail at various locations including the U.S. Post Office
  • Responsible for the security of the vehicle and contents at all times
  • Operate equipment to seal and apply postage to outgoing usps mail
  • Determine classification of outgoing mail and calculates proper postage
  • Record customer short codes for high-volume mailings
  • Explain services and schedules to customers; resolve complaints
  • Observe and follow safe work practices; keep the work area free from hazards; and inform the manager of existing and potential safety hazards
  • Support environmental programs, e.g. Recycling
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.


  • Knowledge of mail center operations/procedures/schedules
  • Knowledge of USPS and commercial carrier regulations pertaining to size, weight, mail classifications, rates, and schedules.
  • License to drive a motor vehicle
  • Ability to maintain good driving record and pass TVA defensive driving course
  • Ability to sort and classify mail
  • Ability to operate motor vehicle
  • Ability to apply procedures relative to packaging, weighing, and mailing materials
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to apply record storage regulations
  • Ability to plan and organize work
  • Ability to apply procurement regulations
  • Ability to work on a loading dock approximately 2 hours per day
  • Computer skills a plus
  • Knowledge of Agile and SCLogic a plus
